NAZARETH School of National University got its act together late to turn back feisty De La Salle-Zobel, 82-67, for its fifth straight win in the UAAP Season 81 juniors' basketball tournament on Wednesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Gerry Abadiano dropped 20 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and a steal for the Bullpups to stay atop the standings at 10-1.
Carl Tamayo also tallied 11 points, 12 boards, three blocks and an assist as the 1-2 combo more than made up for the ejection of Terrence Fortea, who committed a disqualifying foul in the first quarter against Ranz Unisa.
NU surprisingly had its hands full with DLSZ staying within striking distance, 60-57 after three quarters.
The Junior Archers even tied the game up at 61, before the Bullpups broke the game wide open with a 17-3 blast to grab a 78-64 lead in the final 3:42 courtesy of an Ernest Felicilda layup.
NU outscored DLSZ, 22-10 in total in that payoff period. Jeff Mailim added eight points, as Felicilda and Kevin Quiambao both got seven in the victory.
Jac Macasaet paced the Junior Archers with 12 points and five rebounds, as Ivan Cudiamat had 11 and three.
Nat Sevilla had 10 points and 14 rebounds after Raven Cortez reaggravated his knee injury and only played for three minutes in the game.
