FRESH video evidence has shed new light on the brawl that marred the UAAP Season 79 juniors basketball game between University of Santo Tomas and University of the East, absolving UE player Andre Dulalia of any culpability.
Witness accounts earlier gathered by SPIN.ph said Dulalia was one of the main protagonists in the fight underneath the basket that triggered the melee that erupted with 56.8 seconds left in the match that prompted officials to call off the match and declare UST the winner.
However, a 54-second video furnished to SPIN.ph showed Dulalia wasn't on the floor when the melee started. A check on the game records also show Dulalia wasn't part of the five playing for the UE Junior Warriors in the final stages of the match.
Watch the video:
While the video shot from behind the UE bench couldn't provide a clear picture of the fight, sources said another UE player, Daniel Ramos, swung the elbow to a UST player who he claimed hit him with a sucker punch in a prior play.
UST, which was leading, 94-81, when the fight broke out, was declared the winner but expected sanctions to be imposed by the UAAP for players involved in the fracas hang over the Tiger Cubs' playoff match against De La Salle-Zobel for the fourth and last spot in the Final Four.
The new video evidence does not show any UST player rushing to the floor during the fracas, but it only showed a portion of the incident.
UST sources claimed no one among their players left the bench during the incident.
UAAP commissioner Rebo Saguisag said the league is in possession of footage from one other camera as it reviews the incident prior to the UST-DLS-Z knockout match.
