Is Ethan Kirkness joining Bullpups? Fil-Aussie prospect's dad confirms talks with NU

    Jul 19, 2017

ETHAN Kirkness' family confirmed that they are engaged in talks with National University for the Fil-Aussie prospect to join the school's juniors basketball program.

A source told the Fil-Aussie big man is headed to the Bullpups and study in the Philippines after being based in Australia for years.

Ethan's father Michael Kirkness neither confirmed nor denied his son's move to NU, but said they have spoken to NU officials.

"We are in talks with NU," said Michael, when asked if his son is headed to NU.

The interest of Kirkness by schools here in the country isn't surprising. The Fil-Aussie is only 14 years old and the 6-foot-9 Australia-based player is currently part of the Batang Gilas pool.

He was even groomed to play for the country in the Seaba Under-16 Championship this year, but Kirkness skipped the tournament as he was said to be recruited in the United States. He could still play for the country in the Fiba Asia Under-16 Championship as he owns a Philippine passport.

The potential recruitment of Kirkness could be another boost for the Bullpups program which continues to eye blue-chip talents for their high school team. Recently, Echo Laure, the 14-year-old son of former PBA player Eddie Laure, committed to play for NU.

The Bullpups are one of the top high school basketball programs in the country, winning three UAAP crowns in the juniors division under Jeff Napa, but is now under a new head coach in Goldwin Monteverde.
