A POSSIBLE disruption to the UAAP Season 79 juniors basketball tournament was averted after the Manila Regional Trial Court decided not to extend the Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) it issued on the league decision to declare Encho Serrano ineligible, sources told SPIN.ph.

The decision of the Manila court lifted any uncertainty from the start of the Final Four of the tournament, which proceeded with National University beating De La Salle-Zobel to reach the finals and Ateneo routing Far Eastern University to force a sudden-death match in their own semifinal duel.

A 72-hour TRO was issued last week following a case filed by Serrano’s parents against the UAAP decision to declare Serrano ineligible for Season 79 for failure to submit pertinent documents related to his high school enrollment.

The UAAP ruling led to the forfeiture of the Baby Falcons' 11 victories in the 12 games where Serrano played, bumping off the school from the Final Four picture.

Despite the non-extension of the TRO, the case is still ongoing, said another source.
