UAAP juniors basketball MVP CJ Cansino of University of Santo Tomas broke into the top five of the NBTC-Chooks To Go National High School Power Rankings even as SJ Belangel of Ateneo retained the no.1 spot in the list in Week 6.
A week after he topped the MVP race in Season 80 of the juniors basketball tournament, Cansino helped the Tiger Cubs win three knockout matches to advance into the stepladder phase of the competition.
On Saturday, Cansino had 18 points, 16 rebounds, and five assists, spearheading UST’s comeback from a 13-point deficit to beat reigning champion Far Eastern University-Diliman.
Meanwhile, Joshua Yerro of University of Visayas made it to the list at 22 for winning the NBTC Cebu MVP award, while Miguel Oczon of National University also became a new entry at 24 in the list that determines the players for the NBTC All-Star Game slated in March at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Belangel retained his top ranking in the list also called as ‘NBTC 24’ determined by a panel of coaches and mediamen as Kai Sotto of Ateneo, Joel Cagulangan of La Salle Greenhills, and Will Gozum of Mapua occupied the second to fourth spots.
L-Jay Gonzales of FEU slipped to sixth, while Rhayyan Amsali of National University and Dave Ildefonso of Ateneo occupied the seventh and eighth spots, respectively. Aaron Fermin of Arellano and Clint Escamis of Mapua rounded out the top 10.
John Galinato of Chiang Kai Shek College, Inand Fornilos of LSGH, Warren Bonifacio of Mapua, RJ Abarrientos of FEU, and Evan Nelle of San Beda retained their spots from 11th to 15th, respectively.
Joem Sabandal of Adamson, Beirn Laurente of University of Visayas, Alex Visser of Ateneo de Cebu-Sacred Heart School, Terrence Fortea of NU, and Raven Cortez of De La Salle-Zobel have the 16th to 20th place.
Mac Guadana of Lyceum stayed at 21, while Yerro, Harvey Pagsanjan of Hope Christian High School, and Oczon got the final three spots.
