UAAP juniors basketball MVP CJ Cansino of University of Santo Tomas broke into the top five of the NBTC-Chooks To Go National High School Power Rankings even as SJ Belangel of Ateneo retained the no.1 spot in the list in Week 6.

A week after he topped the MVP race in Season 80 of the juniors basketball tournament, Cansino helped the Tiger Cubs win three knockout matches to advance into the stepladder phase of the competition.

On Saturday, Cansino had 18 points, 16 rebounds, and five assists, spearheading UST’s comeback from a 13-point deficit to beat reigning champion Far Eastern University-Diliman.

Meanwhile, Joshua Yerro of University of Visayas made it to the list at 22 for winning the NBTC Cebu MVP award, while Miguel Oczon of National University also became a new entry at 24 in the list that determines the players for the NBTC All-Star Game slated in March at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Belangel retained his top ranking in the list also called as ‘NBTC 24’ determined by a panel of coaches and mediamen as Kai Sotto of Ateneo, Joel Cagulangan of La Salle Greenhills, and Will Gozum of Mapua occupied the second to fourth spots.

L-Jay Gonzales of FEU slipped to sixth, while Rhayyan Amsali of National University and Dave Ildefonso of Ateneo occupied the seventh and eighth spots, respectively. Aaron Fermin of Arellano and Clint Escamis of Mapua rounded out the top 10.
