CJ CANSINO of University of Santo Tomas is the runaway leader in the MVP race in the UAAP Season 80 juniors basketball after the first round.
Cansino accumulated 100.57 statistical points after seven games for the Tiger Cubs to take first place by a wide margin over Kai Sotto of Ateneo, according to a report by the league’s statistics provider Imperium Technology.
The 6-foot-1 Cansino averaged 27.6 points and 14.6 rebounds for the Tiger Cubs. He has also scored 35 and 32 points this season, and has also notched a season-high 25 rebounds in one game in Season 80.
The UST guard is on pace to become the first Tiger Cub since Kevin Ferrer in 2010 to win the individual award. Thanks to his effort, UST is in a tie for second place with National University with a 5-2 record.
Sotto is in second place with 74.43 SPs, after averaging 12.9 points, 12.7 rebounds, and a league-high 4.9 blocks in Season 80.
Sotto is followed in the MVP race by Ateneo teammates SJ Belangel and Dave Ildefonso with 69 and 67 SPs, respectively.
Agem Miranda of University of the East, who scored the most points in a game this season with 36, is in fifth with 66.43 SPs.
Season 79 Finals MVP LJ Gonzales of Far Eastern University (64.8571), Jose Sabandal of Adamson (64), Raven Cortez of De La Salle Zobel. (60.4286), Rhayyan Amsali of National University (60.4286), and RJ Abarrientos of FEU (57.8571) round out the top 10.
