AFTER a historic run in Davao, four members of the Ateneo de Davao basketball program are set to begin a new chapter as head coach Jess Evangelio confirmed that Rhysus Bajenting, Matt Cayetano, JM Sanoria, and Macky Peligrino will be joining La Salle Zobel.
The highly touted young core previously committed to Ateneo before eventually changing course following the tragic passing of their teammate and close friend Rene Baterbonia.
The move marks the next step for a group that helped put Ateneo de Davao’s basketball program on the map, coming off a championship run in the 2025 Palarong Pambansa, a title-winning campaign in the ASEAN School Games, and a silver medal finish in the recently-concluded 2026 Palarong Pambansa in Agusan del Sur.
For Evangelio, the move represents not just a new basketball destination, but an opportunity for the players to continue growing inside and outside the court.
“We are truly thankful to La Salle Zobel for opening its doors and providing them with the opportunity to grow not only as athletes, but also as students and young men of character,” Evangelio said in a social media post.
With a new home awaiting, Bajenting, Cayetano, Sanoria, and Peligrino will look to bring their winning culture and lessons from Davao into the next chapter of their journey.
