ADAMSON closed out the season with a huge fourth quarter to beat National University, 70-68, on Saturday in the UAAP Season 79 juniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Carl Tamayo had 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Baby Falcons in an emotional end to their campaign to officially finish with a 2-12 win-loss record.
Behind a crowd predominantly Adamson crowd, the Baby Falcons came storming back after trailing by 13, coming up with a 23-8 fourth quarter.
The Baby Falcons are out of the semifinal picture after 11 of their victories were forfeited for fielding in an ineligible player in Encho Serrano.
A tearful Encho Serrano joined the emotional Adamson players in the singing of the Adamson school hymn after the game.
The tension remained after the match with players and coaches from both sides not shaking hands. An Adamson fan was also sent off for an altercation with the NU team on their way back to the dugout.
Gerry Austin Abadiano had 11 points, but it was Raymund Umayao, Reygan Santos, and Prence Padrigao who sparked the Baby Falcons in the fourth period, combining for 26 points.
The Baby Falcons began the fourth period trailing, 60-47, and were still down, 66-55, when they went on 14-0 run capped by a triple by Umayao for a 69-66 lead with 1:16 left.
John Lloyd Clemente hit a field goal and two free throws to push NU to within a point, 69-68. Jason Celis later split his two free throws to give Adamson a 70-68 advantage. On NU’s last possession, Winderlich Coyoca missed a jumper.
The Bullpups closed the eliminations with a 12-2 card, holding the top-seed in the Final Four.
