TYLER Tio is thankful for coach Tab Baldwin’s trust and is glad to show he can deliver in crunch time.
The sophomore guard found little space against Letran's Bong Quinto and didn't hesitate to launch the three-pointer with 17.3 ticks left that lifted the Blue Eagles over Letran on Sunday.
It was their second win in four games in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup.
"I'm very blessed for coach Tab's trust but then I don't know, it's because I'm a point guard and he emphasizes that the point guard has to lead, he gives a lot of responsibilities to a point guard so I just try to do my best to repay his trust," said Tio, who also had three rebounds.
The former Xavier standout said he felt the need to step up in the homestretch with the game on the line.
"Actually it was on the fly, coach (Tab Baldwin) didn't call that," he said of his last shot.
"At first I was gonna hand that ball to Thirdy (Ravena) but coach Tab told me to get the ball back. Mismatch so I just tried to read the defense."
Tio added he won't be trying to make dazzling plays every time, saying focus is on his job as playmaker.
"We'll see. We don't know yet. I'll just try to take it one game at a time," he said.
"I'm not trying to be like that every game naman so just read the defense and see what happens."
