RAJKO Toroman will be running practice for Mighty Sports on Monday to start off the team’s preparations for the 2019 Jones Cup with head coach Charles Tiu in Greece for the Fiba Under-19 Basketball World Cup.
Toroman will be taking charge for the moment being the assistant coach of Mighty Sports, which will represent the Philippines in the July 12-21 showpiece.
“Charles Tiu is with the national team (Gilas Pilipinas Youth) and I will prepare the team for the Jones Cup until he arrives,” Toroman said. Tiu is one of the assistants of youth coach Sandy Arespacochaga.
Toroman said he will make full use of the little preparation time of the team backstopped by former PBA imports Renaldo Balkman Eugene Phelps, and Zachary Graham as well as Jason Brickman, Aaron Black, Gab Banal, and Joseph Yeo, among others.
“I haven’t see the team. I know we have five Americans, all of them are good players. But it’s a short period of time. You have to make some chemistry and some adjustment,” said Toroman.
Following the Mighty Sports campaign in the Jones Cup, Toroman will head back to Jakarta to join the Indonesia national team preparing for the Southeast Asian Games in Manila in November.
Toroman was glad to accept the offer of Mighty Sports being Tiu’s good friend.
“Charles is a big friend of mind. We are always in connection even though we haven’t worked the last six years. It was nice to come back in the Philippines to see some PBA games, to work with the players, and participate in the Jones Cup,” said Toroman.
