MIGHTY Sports assistant coach Rajko Toroman is making the most out of the limited time the team has in their preparation for the 2019 Jones Cup.

The team is on its first week of preparations for the Jones Cup where Mighty Sports is looking to repeat its 2016 feat where they won the crown.

Mighty Sports brought in former PBA imports Renaldo Balkman, Eugene Phelps, Hamady N’Diaye, Zach Graham, and McKenzie Moore to serve as reinforcements for the team. Jason Brickman, Mikey Williams, Gab Banal, and Aaron Black are also part of the roster.

Toroman said there is no doubt the team is talented, but he admitted the players are still not in game shape as it is currently offseason for most of the leagues in the world.

“We have a good team but the players are coming in with different shape,” said Toroman, sitting in for head coach Charles Tiu as he is in Greece as part of the coaching staff of the Gilas Youth in the Fiba Under-19 World Cup. “It’s vacation time in Europe, US, Brazil. The first few days will be good for the players to pick up their kind of shape.”

“We have good players individually. The are very good but we have to work on our chemistry and be like a team because it doesn’t matter if you are individually the best in the tournament if you don’t have chemistry and we have to work on that.”

Toroman is confident Mighty Sports will be able to work as a team after they play two tune-up matches soon including a game against Gilas Pilipinas which is preparing for the Fiba World Cup.

“There’s a few more days. It will be difficult. But with the tune-up games, we will be ready to play in the Jones Cup,” said Toroman.

“We have a strong team. What we are missing is the time to prepare the team. We are running out of time but we will do what’s possible to be ready for the Jones Cup,” said Toroman.
