    Mar 28, 2014
The top 24 high school players in Metro Manila see action in the 2014 SLAM Rising Stars Classic.

A rare exhibition game that gathers the top 24 high school players in Metro Manila will be held today at the Gatorade Hoops Center as part of the first ever 2014 SLAM Rising Stars Classic presented by Cherifer PGM 10-22.

Tipoff time is at 4 p.m.

The players will be divided into two – Team Punks to be coached by former FIBA-Asia U-18 national team Olsen Racela and assisted by Johnny Abarrientos, and Team Hype of FIBA-Asia U-18 PH coach Jamike Jarin with Jimmy Alapag as his deputy.

The event presented by Cherifer PGM 10-22, and supported by Fox Sports, Gatorade, LGR Sportswear, and Titan bring together future stars Thirdy Ravena of Ateneo, Prince Rivero of La Salle Greenhills, Arvin Tolentino of San Beda, Hubert Cani of National University, high-scoring Renzo Subido of De La Salle Zobel, among others.

Ravena and Rivero are both the reigning juniors MVPs in the UAAP and NCAA, respectively, while Tolentino was adjudged as NCAA Finals MVP with the Red Cubs.

All three incidentally were teammates with the U-18 FIBA 3-on-3 Philippine team.

The event serves as a platform for the nation’s top high school players to show their wares in front of coaches, scouts, pro ballers, and select members of the media.

It also gives college coaches the chance to take a look at the talent still available as they try to boost their respective rosters for the coming collegiate season.

Ravena and Tolentino though, are already committed to play for the Blue Eagles, while Rivero will be taking his act to Taft Avenue with the La Salle Green Archers.
