TECHNOLOGICAL Institute of the Philippines and Bulacan State University pulled off opening day victories on Saturday in the first Universities and Colleges Basketball League men’s basketball tournament at the Olivarez College Gym.
Harley Diego and John Enriquez had 12 points each as the TIP Engineers defeated University of Batangas, 69-54, while Leonard De Leon and Dominick Fajardo tallied 29 and 24 points, respectively, as the BulSU Gold Gears outplayed Olivarez College, 96-91.
The Engineers coached by Potit De Vera went on a 26-15 tear in the second quarter to grab a 42-31 lead at halftime.
Fajardo made 12 points in the third quarter to lead the Gold Gears in outscoring the Sea Lions, 30-16, in the third quarter to build a 71-64 lead entering the final canto.
