THE National Basketball League-Pilipinas Season 2024 President’s Cup is slated to begin on Saturday with seven teams including reigning champion Taguig Generals seeing action.
Tikas Kapampangan and Sulong Zambales at Batang Gapo open hostilities at the Subic Sports Complex in Subic, Zambales at 5:30 p.m. following the opening ceremony at 4 p.m.
Other teams entered in the league are Camsur Express, Paranaque Smile 360, Valenzuela Workhorse, and Nueva Ecija.
All eyes will be on the Taguig Generals, who will be vying for their fifth title in the league. The Generals swept Camsur in their best-of-five finals series last March.
But other teams led by the Express are out to dethrone the Generals in the league where the players are based in their respective provinces, cities, and municipalities.
Following their first finals appearance, the Express are determined to finally win a title in the NBL-Pilipinas being a pioneer team in the league alongside Taguig.
Paranaque has made its return to the league under new management after being the inaugural champions in 2018 where it defeated the Dasmarinas Ballers in the finals series.
Mike Sampurna of Taguig, Lhancer Khan of Tikas Kapampangan, and Lyndon Del Rosario of Sulong Zambales at Batang Gapo will be on hand to attend the opening ceremony that will feature parade of teams and muses.
All teams will play a double round-robin with the top four teams advancing to the semifinals in the league with Celso Mercado serving as chairman, Rhose Montreal being the executive vice president, and John Edward Aquino working as the vice president of basketball operations.
Montreal will also serve as the commissioner, the first women to hold such position in Philippine professional basketball.
All games will be shown live on Aliw Channel 23, with streaming at the NBL-Pilipinas Facebook and YouTube platforms, and other international TV partners.
