TIKAS Kapampangan and Taguig Generals picked up victories on Friday in the National Basketball League-Pilipinas Season 2024 President’s Cup at the WES Arena in Valenzuela City.
Tikas routed home team Valenzuela Workhorse, 103-52, to remain in second place with a 3-1 win-loss record, behind unbeaten Camsur Express (4-0).
Taguig overcame Paranaque Smile 360, 107-104, to notch its second straight win after three games.
Raniel Gomez finished with 18 points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals in the Tikas win where six players scored in double digits.
Mark Redulfa had 15 points and six rebounds but the Workhorse still fell to their second straight defeat.
Fidel Castro topscored for Taguig with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from threes, while Christopher Azares added 14 points.
The Generals escaped Smile 360 after a late rally from 14 points down to cut the deficit to 106-104 only for Mike Sampurna to drain a free throw off a flagrant foul one with four seconds remaining in the game to hold on to the win.
Angelo Obuyes had 18 points for Paranaque as it suffered its fourth loss in as many games.
Meanwhile, Nueva Ecija Granary Buffalos play their first home game on Sunday in Palayan City where they face Valenzuela at 6 p.m. at the Nueva Ecija Coliseum.
Sulong Zambales squares off against Taguig in the first match-up at 4 p.m.
