DOCTORS said Thomas Torres will need at least six weeks to recover from three stab wounds suffered in a melee early Sunday that also involved former La Salle teammates and current PBA players Jeron Teng and Norbert Torres in a Bonifacio Global City.
Torres’ agent Charlie Dy said the former Archers guard underwent a three-hour surgery for stab wounds in right arm, left arm, and chest. The wound on his right arm was so deep it tore his tricep muscle, the veteran players agent added.
“Sa hospital pa siya. Parang three hours ‘yung surgery niya kasi nasaksak ‘yung triceps niya. Malalim at napunit ‘yung muscles,” said Dy. “Out siya sabi ng doctor ng six weeks.”
Torres was with Teng and Norbert Torres in the parking lot near Early Night bar when three men, later identified in the police report as Edmar Manalo, Joseph Varona, and Willard Basili, 'got their attention,' leading to a fight.
Dy said Torres was the worst off among the three players.
Due to the injuries, Torres will miss games with the Mandaluyong El Tigre in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) where he was supposed to be playing alongside Bobby Ray Parks and former La Salle teammate Prince Rivero.
Dy said he was told Teng and the two Torreses had dinner at Tipsy Pig and were on their way to their respective cars in the parking lot when the incident happened.
“Kumain sila, then naglakad sila around Fort tapos pauwi na sila, napadaan sila sa Early Night going into their cars. I think napagtripan lang sila,” said Dy.
Dy said Mandaluyong owners and head coach Mac Cuan have already been informed about Torres’ situation.
“Hindi siya makakalaro muna. Informed naman ‘yung Mandaluyong. Bumisita na si coach Mac and then ‘yung owner bibisita mamaya,” said Dy.
