THAILAND gave Vietnam a rude reception in the 2017 Southeast Asian Basketball Association Championship as it cruised to a 76-51 decision for its second straight win on Saturday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

The Thais didn’t even need star guard Chitchai Ananti, who was out with a leg injury he sustained late in the team’s opening-day win against Malaysia on Friday.

Kannut Samerjai picked up the slack, scoring 14 points, built around four triples, along with four assists in just 16 minutes, while Wutipong Dasom added 11 points in 14 minutes.

The Thai banked on a strong start, going up, 22-6, after the first quarter and maintaining a huge lead that ballooned to 28 points, 52-24, in the third quarter, to coast to the victory against the debuting Vietnamese.

    The scores:

    THAILAND 76 – Samerjai 14, Dasom 11, Lodliang 10, Jaisanuk 9, Ghogar 9, Chanthachon 9, Sunthonsiri 7, P. Klahan 4, C. Klahan 2, Boonsern 1, Muangboon 0
