NCAA fans may have seen the last of Teytey Teodoro in a Jose Rizal University uniform, but his performance in Game One of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) finals is a strong indication that fans haven't seen the last of him.
The high-scoring guard is resigned to the big possibility that he may not be coming back for his final year with the Heavy Bombers, but he hopes that his play in this brand-new league will be enough for PBA scouts to take notice.
Teodoro built his credentials on Thursday night, pouring in a game-high 20 points to lead the Batangas Tanduay Athletics to a 70-64 win over Muntinlupa-Angelis Resort in the opener of the MPBL finals..
"Kay Coach Vergel (Meneses) parin ang desisyon, pero kung hindi naman na makakabalik, okay lang din," Teodoro said when asked about his chances of suiting up one last time for the Bombers.
"Nag-usap naman na kami. Okay lang din naman kasi baka gusto na rin ng JRU mag rebuild, kasi lagi nalang kaming Final Four eh," he added.
With Batangas, Teodoro has emerged as a reliable offensive option off the bench, averaging nearly 11 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists off the bench.
He can only hope pro scouts are taking notice.
"Sana ito yung maging way at may makapansin sa akin. Focus lang ako dito sa Batangas, ready lang ako lagi," he added.
What makes the league unique for Teodoro is its mix of veteran players and hungry upstarts like himself, making it a perfect jumping point for him in the pros.
"Siyempre iba dito. Macha-challenge ka talaga kasi maraming mga beterano, marami ring magagaling. Mahahasa ka talaga," said the former JRU star.
