TEN international teams will be part of the 36-team field in the Chooks-to-Go SM-National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) this upcoming 2020 season.
"We're happy to welcome more teams and discover more talents from all over the globe this upcoming NBTC season," said NBTC founder Eric Altamirano on Tuesday during the Partner's Luncheon at SM Premier Cafe.
Two teams from the United States, three from Canada, two from Australia, and a team each for Italy, New Zealand, and the Middle East will participate in 13th edition of the tournament for high schoolers.
The international teams will battle 26 local crews for the Division I championship in the National Finals come March, to be held at the Mall of Asia Arena.
But before they get there, the road begins in the local city qualifiers set later this month, before the regional finals are held in January.
Supporting the NBTC program are main sponsors SM Prime and Chooks-to-Go.
"We at SM can relate to the story of NBTC. From three cities they have now expanded to 127 and counting. And we will continue to support this program to help our young athletes achieve their dreams," said SM Prime chairman Hans Sy.
"Being part of the NBTC prepares our young athletes for the next stage of their lives. Here, they get a chance to get scholarships in good colleges and, more importantly, be good leaders," added Chooks-to-Go president Ronald Mascarinas. "It's in line with our mission, the Manok ng Bayan mission."
Also backing the 2020 season are Darlington, Vivo, Phoenix Fuels, Smart, ESPN5, Cignal, Gatorade, Molten, and Go for Gold.
