TECHNOLOGICAL Institute of the Philippines looks to formalize its entry into the semifinals when it battles Colegio De San Lorenzo on Monday in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League at the Olivarez Sports Center in Paranaque City.
Already assured of a playoff for the last semis berth, the Engineers shoot for win No. 7 against the Griffins at 12 p.m.
The Engineers went through the wringer before beating the Griffins, 76-72, in the first round, and TIP coach Potit de Vera isn’t taking things lightly.
“It’s going to be tough for both of us (CDSL coach Boni Garcia) since a semis berth is at stake,” said de Vera.
Another defeat would push the Griffins to the brink of elimination.
The Engineers are in third with a 6-3 win-loss record, while the Griffins are tied for fourth with Bulacan State University at 4-6.
Unbeaten Centro Escolar University (10-0) and Olivarez College (7-3) have booked tickets to the semifinals.
University of Batangas tries to follow up its breakthrough 79-69 win over Bulacan State University when it faces Diliman College.
The win ended UB’s nine-game losing streak while Diliman’s 80-63 defeat to Olivarez extended its run of futility to five games.
