TAYLOR Statham anchored Pasig Grindhouse Kings in a 21-15 victory over Absolute 3x3 of Chinese Taipei to claim the top seed in Pool C of the Chooks-to-Go 3x3 Asia Pacific Super Quest Saturday at SM Megamall Fashion Hall in Mandaluyong.
The Fil-Am forward scored two of Pasig’s last four points as the President's Cup champions went unbeaten in two games.
Pasig Grindhouse went on the attack early, taking a 5-0 lead, but Ya Hsuan Hsieh brought Absolute 3x3 back in the game and got to within two, 15-13.
Joshua Munzon canned a freebie before Nikola Pavlovic scored on a drive to make it 17-13.
Munzon and Statham put on the finishing touches as the Kings arranged a quarterfinal clash against Pool A second placer TSV Reading Cinema of Australia.
"Honestly, it's a testament to who we are as people off the court. We're all very close," said Statham. "Nikola has done a great job of coming in and adding into our team and not taking anything away. We all compete hard and we just love playing together, you can see it to how we play."
Statham fired 10 points to lead the charge for Pasig Grindhouse, as Serbian import Pavlovic chipped in four.
Munzon added four points, while Troy Rike scored three.
Hsieh finished with nine points in the tough defeat as they bowed out of the tourney after two losses.
