MACAU – The Taoyuan Pauian Pilots completed what their fellow Taiwanese team failed to do against a Japanese foe, pulling off a 71-64 win over the Ryukyu Golden Kings on Friday night at the Studio City Event Center to arrange an East Asia Super League title showdown against Hiroshima.
After New Taipei failed to protect a lead against the Dragonflies in the first crossover semifinal, the Pilots displayed the composure after seeing a rally from the Golden Kings to hack out the triumph.
Team captain Lu Chun-Hsiang steered the Pilots with 24 points, highlighted by making all his eight free throws, while three other teammates scored in twin digits.
Making a strong first impression in their EASL debut this season after finishing as the P.League+ runner-up, the Pilots look to complete their Cinderella run in the finale against the Dragonflies on Sunday night at 7 p.m.
Ryukyu and New Taipei settle for bronze earlier at 4 o’clock.
