TANAY is one of the sites being eyed by the MPBL to hold its bubble for the conclusion of the 2020 Lakan Season.
MPBL commissioner Kenneth Duremdes bared during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum via video conference that former Sen. Jinggoy Estrada has offered the family’s property in Tanay to host the bubble that will host four teams that are playing in the Division Finals.
Duremdes added that the Smart-Araneta Coliseum and Subic are also being considered although the MPBL commissioner said the league still needs to get clearance from the Inter-Agency Task Force for games to continue.
“So far, ’yung plans ng MPBL as per our founder/CEO Senator Manny, kailangan talaga tapusin ’yung national finals. Hindi tayo makagalaw sa ngayon dahil for the past few months, hindi pa inallow ‘yung amateur basketball contact sports. Tayo naman sumusunod sa IATF guidelines, hindi rin tayo makapag-set kung kailangan tayo makapag-resume,” said Duremdes during the online forum.
“Sumulat na rin tayo sa IATF to allow us to resume our remaining season. Inaantay na lang natin. It seems na dun na rin papunta ang amateur sports. Parang papayagan na rin nila. If ever mangyari ’yun, meron naman tayong naka-ready na plans like ’yung the famous bubble. Kaya natin ding gawin ’yun but then again, kailangan talaga, mapaghandaan ng maganda.”
Duremdes said the MPBL will also be observing the PBA’s bubble protocols.
The PBA is now in the planning stage of holding its own bubble for the 2020 season.
“Tinitignan namin ang PBA because they have to lead us dahil sila ang pro sports ng basketball sa Pilipinas. Tignan natin kung ginagawa nilang exercise at guidelines. Then if maganda sistema nila, gawin nila,” said Duremdes.
“Maraming LGUs and areas na nag-vo-volunteer na magbigay sa atin ng venues. Hopefully, ’yung next step na inaantay natin na desisyon ng IATF regarding protocols and guidelines eh maglabas na sila para kami ay makapag-ready na,” he added.
All Division Finals – San Juan against Makati in the North, and Davao Occidental against Basilan in the South – are in a do-or-die situation for a spot in the national finals, so the numbers of persons inside the bubble will quickly decrease.
“Marami talagang gustong tumulong sa MPBL. Isa diyan ‘yung Araneta. Gusto rin nila na doon i-held ’yung remaining games namin. Meron ding Subic. Maraming gustong tumulong para matapos lang. Titignan namin kung ano ang pinakamagandang lugar para i-bubble ’yung four remaining teams. Ang importante dito ay safety. Mahirap mag-gamble dito dahil once na magkamali ka, hindi lang basketball ang apektado kundi health ng players at other sports din,” Duremdes said.
Duremdes said the Estrada property has a wooden court as well as guest rooms ready to accommodate the four teams.
“Inoffer niya ’yung area nila sa Tanay, Rizal,” said Duremdes, referring to Estrada, a team owner of San Juan, “and it’s fit for us dahil may gym, may mga guest rooms, fit for four teams.”
“Nag-Viber siya sa akin, pinakita niya ’yung gym and rooms. Parang fit siya for a bubble dahil private property, malayo siya, kumpleto, may kitchen at dining hall. We just need to go there to inspect. I think it’s possible. Okay naman ‘yung gym, wooden, hindi nga lang aircon pero ang importante dun, ma-control mo ‘yung bubble. Walang makakalabas, walang makakapasok,” he added.
