TAGUIG kept its quarterfinal hopes alive by defeating Paranaque, 80-69, on Saturday in the National Basketball League (NBL) at the Ugnayang La Salle Gym in Dasmarinas, Cavite.
Richmond Gilbero had a double-double of with 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Generals, who finished the elimination round with a 4-6 card.
The Generals moved up to a tie for sixth place with Nueva Ecija, which lost to Dasmarinas, 81-76, on Saturday.
The top two teams after the eliminations will take an outright semifinal berth while the third to sixth placed squads will play in a knockout quarterfinal match. Ties will be broken via either the winner-over-the-other rule or the quotient system.
Kevin Oliveria had 15 points, while Jonathan Lontoc added 10 for Taguig.
Noy Bermudes scored 13 points, and Jess Quilatan had 11 points for Paranaque, which dropped to fifth place with a 4-3 card.
John Cantimbuhan had 28 points, while JP Rabe had 17 points, 10 rebounds, and nine blocks for Dasmarinas in its win over Nueva Ecija in front of its home fans.
