TAGUIG aims to reclaim the National Basketball League-Pilipinas (NBL) crown when it faces La Union in for the Chairman’s Cup finals that will start on the first week of January.

The Generals were able to advance into the finals after sweeping Bulacan DF Republicans in the best-of-three semifinals. Taguig entered the playoffs in second place with a 6-2 win-loss record.

Taguig is eyeing a repeat of its achievement in 2019 when the Generals captured the crown over Pampanga in the second season of the league.

Game One is set on Wednesday, January 4 at the Hagonoy Sports Complex in Taguig as the Generals hold the homecourt advantage in the best-of-three finals.

But Taguig head coach Bing Victoria said now is not the time to relax as the ballclub closes in on a championship after a three-year drought and a couple of playoff disappointments in the past conferences.

“Actually, we haven’t accomplished anything yet,” said Victoria, a former University of the Philippines player who now serves as the sports director of the city. “Balik kami sa practice, aral kami, turuan ‘yung mga players. ‘Yun naman ang trabaho namin. Magturo hindi lang sa court, and to be a better person.”

The Generals were led by Dan Anthony Natividad after averaging 16.9 points, but also got support from Edzel Galoy and Fidel Castro in the scoring department. Mike Sampurna, Noel Santos, and Jonathan Lontoc were also key players in the Generals’ run.

Victoria hopes that the Generals, heading to the finals with the home court edge, were able to learn from 120-113 win over the DF Republicans in the clincher where they were victorious playing at home for the first time since 2020.

“Actually, ang hirap din maglaro ng home game after two years. Medyo gigil ‘yung mga players. Ang sabi ko lang sa kanila, darating ‘yung game sa kanila,” said Victoria.
