TAGUIG overcame a 14-point deficit to defeat Camsur, 91-88, in Game Five on Saturday to capture the National Basketball League-Pilipinas President’s Cup 2024 at the Jun Duenas Gymnasium.
The Generals erased a 79-65 disadvantage to pull off the victory and claim their third straight President’s Cup crown, and fifth overall title in the homegrown basketball league.
LJ Mayo was adjudged as the Finals MVP after nailing the go-ahead shot and make it 87-85, with the Generals eventually holding on to the lead and steal the title away from the Express.
Mayo finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds in the Game Five victory that was held after the Generals lost the previous two matches of the series.
Mike Sampurna had 20 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while Chris Azares added 15 points including crucial free throws in the end game.
The Generals beat the Express in Games One and Two, 90-87 and 80-77, respectively at the Jun Duenas Gymnasium.
Jerome Almario had 20 points, six assists, and five steals, as Raphael Vibares added 18 points and 10 rebounds for Camsur, which forced a winner-take-all match for the title after victories in Games Three and Four, 93-92 and 107-102, respectively in Pili, Camarines Sur.
