TAGUIG and Camsur start their championship series in the National Basketball League-Pilipinas President’s Cup on Friday at the Jun Duenas Gymnasium.
The Generals will be vying for their fourth straight title, while the Express are gunning for a breakthrough first championship in the best-of-five finals.
Game One is set to tip off at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Generals rule
Taguig booked a spot in the finals after defeating Paranaque Smile 360, 94-92, in the semifinals where the Generals held a twice-to-beat advantage as the No. 1 seed with an 11-1 record.
Camsur, seeded No. 2 in the semifinals with a 9-3 mark, had to play a knockout game before dispatching Tikas Kapampangan, 102-97, in their own semifinal.
Taguig will be looking for a repeat of last conference’s title showdown where the Generals swept Camsur in the best-of-five finals.
Mike Sampurna will be leading from the front for Taguig after the former Finals MVP averaged 17.8 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 7.5 assists for the Generals this conference.
Jerome Almario has been showing the way in only his rookie season with Camsur, averaging 18.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.4 steals.
Also expected to be major contributors for the series are LJ Mayo, Jonats Lontoc, Dan Natividad, and Fidel Castro for the Bing Victoria-mentored Taguig, and Raphael Vibares, Verman Magpantay, Philip Domagtoy, Jamba Garing, and Eugene Mallapre for Camsur, coached by Momo Molto.
