TAGUIG defeated Camsur, 88-81, to open the National Basketball League-Pilipinas (NBL) Chairman’s Cup finals on Sunday at the Jun Duenas Gym.
LJ Mayo delivered 20 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and four steals as the Generals drew first blood of the best-of-five finals series.
Taguig is seeking for its third straight title and fourth overall in the homegrown regional basketball league.
Mark Ordonez also chipped in 13 points off the bench for the Generals, who built an 82-65 lead in the fourth on their way to the Game One win.
Taguig, mentored by Bing Victoria, goes for a 2-0 lead on Wednesday, still at the Jun Duenas Gym before the series shifts to Camsur for the next two games.
Andrei Rito collected 19 points for the Express coached by Momo Molto in a losing effort despite holding a 43-42 halftime lead. Camsur is playing its first-ever finals since being one of the pioneer teams during the league’s inception in 2018.
