MALOLOS – Playing in just their second home game, the Bulacan Kuyas-Mighty Sports made sure not to disappoint fans by beating Parañaque Patriots-F2 Logistics, 77-58, in the MPBL Datu Cup on Wednesday night.
Bulacan drew solid games from JR Taganas and ex-pro Jason Melano, who both came up with double-double efforts to help the Kuyas win their second straight game - and third in four games overall.
The burly Taganas had 14 points and 10 rebounds while Melano, a former player of Blackwater who was picked up in the offseason, had 12 markers on top of 10 boards for the Britt Reroma-mentored squad.
“It doesn’t mean anything. The 3-1 record is just an indication that we’re slowly but surely gaining progress, but the tournament is still a long way to go. There are more tough teams out there that we’re going to face moving forward,” said Reroma.
Bulacan also held Parañaque to its lowest output this season.
Jemal Vizcarra led the way with 22 points but no other Parañaque player was able to tally in double figures.
Like Bulacan, Basilan also had another proud moment after picking up its second consecutive win - an 88-78 decision over Pampanga.
The Steel drew solid contributions from four players led by former Sta. Lucia Realtor Dennis Daa, who went a rebound shy from a double-double performance with 17 points and nine rebounds. Mark Ababon added 15 points while Dino Daa and Tata Bautista had 12 apiece.
