GILAS Pilipinas coach Tab Baldwin has kept the door open for Gary David and Troy Rosario as far as their inclusion to the national team bound for China for the Fiba Asia Championship is concerned.
The national coach has listed the Meralco gunner and the Talk ‘N Text rookie forward as their reserves for the continental Olympic qualifier later this month.
“We have a forward and we have a guard,” Baldwin said in the press launch of the MVP Cup on Thursday. “Hopefully we don’t run into a situation where we’re forced to make a roster change, but if we feel we have to or if we want to, we have the right players in the reserves to make the change.”
Roster changes can be made until the eve of the start of Fiba Asia tilt that opens on September 23.
David and Rosario have continued to practice with Gilas after being among the final cuts in the Final 12.
“We need the extra bodies in practice,” Baldwin said. “They’re great servants. One’s got a great future and one’s got a great past and we’re honored that both of them are here.”
Gilas, though, will momentarily play against Rosario, who will suit up for Talk ‘N Text in the MVP Cup game versus the national team on Friday along with another Gilas pool member, Moala Tautuaa.
The No. 2 pick in this year’s draft will return to Gilas as a reserve in its next two games against Chinese Taipei and New Zealand, respectively.
“Somebody said to me we’re not allowed to switch rosters, and I said why not? It’s our tournament,” Bladwin said. “It’s for Gilas to advance and get better.”
