LYCEUM got a measure of revenge against San Beda as the Pirates defeated the Red Lions, 70-66, on Thursday to capture the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) national title at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Finals MVP Jaycee Marcelino had 19 points and nine rebounds as the Pirates toppled the NCAA champion Red Lions in a rematch of the Season 93 championship series.

The Pirates reasserted their status as one of the top collegiate teams in the country by ruling the PCCL crown for the first time in school history.

LPU took advantage of a San Beda drought, outscoring the Red Lions, 12-1 to start off the fourth quarter. Marcelino hit the final three points of that run on free throws as the Pirates grabbed a 66-58 lead with 4:21 left in the fourth.

Marcelino also provided the dagger, hitting a jumper to hike LPU’s lead to 68-62 with 44.9 seconds left in the fourth.

LPU coach Topex Robinson, however, said exacting revenge after losing the NCAA crown is the least in the team’s mind as he looks at the overall picture.

“Actually, what I reminded the team, even myself, is it’s not about San Beda. It’s about the vision that we started. It just so happened that San Beda is going to be there. They really got us going,” said Robinson.
