SAN Beda beat Letran, 79-56, last week in the finals of the 24th Fr. Martin Cup Summer Basketball Tournament at the San Beda gym.
Clint Doliguez had 18 points for the Red Lions, including nine – from three triples – in the first quarter to key in an early attack by his team.
Doliguez scored a lay-up in the second quarter to give San Beda its biggest lead, 59-41.
With the victory, San Beda captured an offseason crown before the coming NCAA Season 94 where they will be defending the crown.
San Beda lost to Ateneo in the finals of the Filoil preseason cup.
Jeremer Cabanag had 12 points for San Beda in the championship game.
“We played the guys who have not been playing in other offseason tournaments to give them exposure. I'm happy we won the game and the championship,” said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez.
San Beda won seven out of its eight matches in the offseason tournament including an 80-59 win over St. Francis of Assisi College in the quarterfinals.
San Beda also beat reigning champion Diliman College, 70-57, with Calvin Oftana scoring 13 points in the semifinal outing.
In the juniors division, Adamson won the title with a 78-76 win over San Beda.
Meanwhile, tournament organizers Ato Badolato and Robert dela Rosa said the 16th Fr. Martin Cup Division 2 will start on July 13 at the San Beda gym.
