WHILE Jalen Green put on an aerial show on Tuesday, Steve Nash Enriquez produced a highlight of his own against the Fil-American cager in the NBTC National Finals.
The 15-year-old Enriquez stole the ball from right under Green's nose in a defensive gem in the second half of University of the Visayas’ defeat to FilAm Sports USA.
Enriquez finished with three points and five assists in his first-ever game at the Mall of Asia Arena but wowed the crowd with his dribbling skills and his guts against opponents a full head taller than him, including Green and NCAA Division I Virginia recruit Kihei Clark.
Enriquez, already a popular figure back in his hometown of Cebu, became an instant hit to fans who tuned in to the live stream coverage of the NBTC games following the defensive gem against Green.
“Wala lang, masaya,” said Enriquez in a brief interview with SPIN.ph on Tuesday night after UV lost to FilAm Sports in the Sweet 16.
Enriquez, who was named after two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash, said he is thrilled to have the chance to play against the Fil-American squad.
“Oo, privilege na makalaban sila. Ang lalaki nila at may experience sila,” said the 5-foot-6 Enriquez.
Enriquez said the exposure of playing against FilAm Sports will go a long way as UV returns home to play in its mother leagues.
“Experience talaga. Bigger opponents kasi eh. Eto bigger league eh,” said Enriquez.
