STEPHEN Curry said he will cheer for Gilas Pilipinas when the national team vies for top honors in the Fiba Asia Championship later this month.
“I’m rooting for them,” said the NBA superstar, in town to promote his new Under Armour shoe.
Curry described the feeling of playing for your national team, having been a member of the US side that won the gold medal in the World Cup.
“It’s amazing,” the Golden State Warriors point guard said on Saturday. “There’s a small of group of people that play the game at that level. When your whole country is behind you, there’s no greater feeling.”
Curry gave his advice to the Filipino dribblers, who are seeking the gold medal in the Fiba Asia joust that stakes a lone ticket for the continent to the Rio Olympics next year.
“Just go at it,” Curry said. “Don’t hold anything back. It’s an amazing opportunity. Whether you want to play small ball or want to shoot a lot of threes, just embrace it and play with the best of your ability.”
“Show some heart and hopefully you can achieve whatever goal you’ve set,” the 6-foot-3 playmaker added.
