    Stags, Eagles on track for Fr Martin Cup semis

    SAN Sebastian College-A and Ateneo held off separate rivals to stay in contention for semifinal berths in the 10th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup basketball tournament.

    Leo de Vera showed the way with 13 points for the Stags, who waylaid the La Salle Green Archers, 71-56, while Vince Tolentino led with seven points for the Blue Eagles, who won over San Sebastian-B, 64-54, at the Trinity University of Asia gymnasium in Quezon City.

    The Allan Trinidad-coached Stags recorded their fourth triumph in five games in Group A, while the Blue Eagles improved at 3-1 in Group B of this cagefest, which is supported by Gerry’s Grill.

    Tournament commissioner Robert de la Rosa said the top two teams in each bracket will advance to the semifinal round.

    In junior action, Mark Anthony Framil fired 21 points for the San Beda Red Cubs, who walloped the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs, 67-45.

    They romped off to their second consecutive triumph in Group A, and joined Hope Christian High School in the early lead.

    Rainier Magcalas hit 20 points for the Adamson Baby Falcons, who thwarted San Benildo, 69-59, for their first win in two outings.
