STA. Lucia has secured a place in the top four of the quarterfinal round on Tuesday night after surviving a tough stand by Euro-Med, 71-67, in the PCBL Founders Cup at the JCSGO.
By notching its sixth win in 10 games, the Realtors will finish no lower than No. 3 regardless the outcome of the game between Jumbo Plastic Linoluem, which battles Foton on Thursday in this tournament supported by Accel, Spalding, Aquabest and Ambucore.
Should the Linoleum Giants (5-4) lose their game against the Toplander, the Realtors will get the No.2 spot. The top four teams at the end of the elimination round will enjoy a twice-to-beat advantage over their lower-ranked rivals.
Silent in the first half, Mark Montilla caught fire by scoring 21 points in the second half to stabilize the Realtors’ offensive game. He had 13 in the fourth quarter and helped his team pull away, 67-54, entering the last two minutes.
Back-to-back treys by Mar Villahermosa brought Euro-Med back in the thick of the fight before the Realtors used the clock to their advantage to secure the win.
Guard Kent Salado also provided the spark for Sta. Lucia. He contributed 11 points, eight rebounds and a steal. Big man Wowie Escosio chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.
Sydney Onwubere had 10 rebounds as Sta. Lucia outrebounded Euro-Med, 49-44.
Top seed Caida Tiles ended its elimination round campaign on a winning note with a 94-65 demolition of Supremo Lex in the second game. They will meet again in the quarterfinal round with the No.1 Tile Masters carrying twice-to-beat advantage.
