STA. Lucia Realty ended a three-game losing skid by outlasting Supremo Lex even as Euro-Med got back on the winning track by beating Foton in the PCBL Chairman’s Cup on Friday night at the Marikina Sports Center.

The Realtors survived a gutsy Builders, 80-76, for their fifth victory in 10 games, solidifying their chances for a top two berth that bears a twice-to-beat advantage in the next round.

Sta. Lucia forged a tie with Euro-Med, which pulled off a gripping 84-79 overtime win over Foton in the other game. The Realtors and the Laboratory Experts are currently tied for fourth to fifth places.

The Realtors, who welcomed a new member in the coaching staff in University of Santo Tomas coach Bong dela Cruz, banked on the torrid shooting of Jett Vidal, who drilled in six triples, all coming in the first half.

Jam Jamito had a double-double performance of 19 points and 11 boards while frontliners Wowie Escosio and Nico Bangga added 13 and 12, respectively for Sta. Lucia, whose balance production made up for the absence of import Prince Eze, who got injured in practice.

Supremo Lex lost for the ninth straight time and bowed out of contention in this tournament supported by Hahn Manila, Spalding, Ambucore, Gerry’s Grill, During’s Barbeque and Restaurant and LGR.

The Builders stayed at the cellar with a 1-9 card.

Euro-Med banked on Ola Adeogun and Jopher Custodio, who both had a double-double performance to help their team bounce back following a tough loss at the hands of Jumbo Plastic.

Adeogun powered his way for 21 points and 13 rebounds while Custodio, a former player of GlobalPort in the PBA, had 14 points and 10 boards.

With his team down by five, 70-65, with only 10 seconds left in regulation, Custodio hit a triple and Euro-Med made a good gamble of fouling Jeric Nacpil, who missed two free throws that could have sealed the win for the Toplander.

That allowed Alex Almario to race down court for a three-pointer. He instead picked up a foul from Levi Hernandez but could only make two of three shots as the match went to ocvertime.

Another ex-pro, Eloy Poligrates, contributed 20 markers while Pari Llagas chipped in 12 for Euro-Med.

In overtime, crucial free throws form Llagas, Poligrates and Adeogun sealed the win for Euro-Med.
