ST. Benilde International School Calamba beat defending champion Assumption Montessori School Cagayan De Oro, 76-62, on Wednesday to advance to the semifinals of the NBTC National Finals Division 2 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Shawn Algire had 20 points, eight rebounds and two blocks for St. Benilde, which next taces 2016 champion De La Salle-Lipa, which won over Bacolod Tay Tung High School, 69-63.
Stephen Javier had 21 points, while Ian Abila had 17 points and 21 rebounds for La Salle Lipa, which trailed by as many as 16 points.
James Barrera had 23 points and 13 rebounds for Bacolod Tay Tung, but suffered a knee injury that allowed La Salle Lipa to take advantage.
Letran-Bataan defeated Assumption Davao, 78-73, with Julius Garcia tallying 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Squires, who will face St. Louis School-Don Bosco Dumaguete in the semifinals.
The Dumaguete-based cagers beat Jesus The Loving Shepherd Naga, 83-78, with Ian Lazarte contributing 32 points.
