THE St. Clare Saints and the defending champion Olivarez College Sea Lions waylaid separate foes on Tuesday in the 21st National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) men’s basketball tournament.
Raymond Jamito fired 17 points for the Saints, who swamped the Philippine Merchant Marine School Mariners, 70-60, at the Olivarez College gymnasium in Sucat, Paranaque.
In the other game, Basher Sackor shot 14 points for the Sea Lions as they smothered the Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite Vanguards, 88-53.
The Sea Lions (2-1) took the upperhand early and never let go of the lead after taking a 24-15 edge in the first period.
The Saints claimed their fourth straight win and are now in the solo lead of this cagefest supported by Mikasa and Molten Balls.
The Mariners, who won over the Philippine School of Business Administration Jaguars, 73-64, last Friday, dropped to second with their 3-1 slate.
Elmer Managuelod, who tallied 12 points, scored all of his baskets in the second canto and his efforts helped the Saints establish a 38-28 halftime advantage.
Jamito’s driving shot in the last 1:15 triggered a scoring binge that handed the Saints a10-point edge, 36-26.
The Saints are coming off a 73-64 win over the Rizal Technological University Blue Thunders.
