THE Las Pinas Schools Athletic Association (Lpsaa) opened its 17th season on Friday at the Don Carlo Cavina School with 12 member schools participating in the annual tournament.
Lpsaa president Ricardo Dangal bared the 12 schools seeing action this season in various events are Academy of Jesus, Augustinian Abbey School, Bethany School, Bloomfield Academy, Don Carlo Cavina School, Holy Rosary Academy, KCM Academy, OB Montesorri Center, Saint Anthony School, St. Mark’s Institute-Annex, St. Mary Institute-Main, Paref Southridge School, and Young Achievers International School.
Augustinian Abbey School will look to defend its elementary and junior boys basketball crown with the Angels high school team also vying to once again become Las Pinas’ representative in the NCR Palaro.
Last season, the Angels came away with an upset win over Jose Rizal University-backed Mandaluyong in the preliminaries of the NCR Meet boys basketball in Pasig last summer, only to fall short of a semifinal berth due to inferior quotient.
Saint Mark’s-Annex is also seeking to retain the aspirants’ basketball crown in the second phase of the season.
Chrizel Anne T. Gabriel of Bloomfield Academy won the Ms. Lpsaa honor during the opening rites with Gilas assistant coach and SBP coaches’ commission director Jong Uichico serving as guest speaker.
Uichico also threw the ceremonial toss in the opening of the league also attended by Lpsaa ex-officio adviser and SBP regional director for NCR South Bernie Bermudez, commissioner and league treasurer Miguel Arevalo, SBP area coordinator of Las Pinas Louie Lontok, and auditor Ruel Carballo.
Also being played in Lpsaa are volleyball where Augustinian are the champions in the junior girls and boys, aspirants girls, and faculty, and Academy of Jesus in the elementary girls.
Badminton, chess, and table tennis are also scheduled to be played.
