Topex Robinson is La Salle coach
Topex Robinson took the next step in his coaching journey as he was named the new head coach of La Salle.
It was worth the wait for the young coach, who just a week earlier turned down a six-month, P400,000-a-month contract extension Phoenix offered to stay with the team.
Robinson is the seventh La Salle coach since 2012, replacing Derick Pumaren, whose contract was not renewed after it expired last December 31.
Robinson beat seven other coaches, including former Gilas Pilipinas coach Rajko Toroman and Luigi Trillo, for the high-profile college position.
Jansen Rios signs with Meralco
Jansen Rios found a new home at Meralco after his contract with Phoenix expired.
The Bolts signed the 31-year-old free-agent wingman to a one-year deal, agent Ed Ponceja confirmed.
It was the Bolts’ first move in a relatively quiet offseason heading into the Governors’ Cup where they look to return to the finals with KJ McDaniels as their import.
Kai Sotto stats
Kai Sotto’s solid outing went to waste again as the Adelaide 36ers’ comeback fell short in a 106-101 overtime loss to the Brisbane Bullets in the National Basketball League.
The Pinoy center started for the 36ers and finished with nine points on 4-of-7 shooting to go with 7 boards and two blocks in 16 minutes.
Those numbers, though, were insufficient for the 36ers, who rallied from a 13-point deficit, but couldn’t finish the job in the extra session.
