SOULEMANE Chabi Yo and Adama Diakhite spearheaded their respective teams' attack during the opening games of the 2018 Republica Cup collegiate division at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center over the weekend.
Chabi Yo, a Beninese recruit who won the UCBL best foreign player plum, had 20 points in Colegio De San Lorenzo's 83-67 win over Centro Escolar University-Malolos, as the UCBL champions opened their campaign on a high note.
Not to be outdone, Diakhite scored 16 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter as the Senegalese cager powered Diliman College to a 76-67 win over Arellano.
Dominic Formento also had 17 points for the Griffins but it was Chabi Yo who led the way for his team as he scored eight points in the first quarter for a 28-16 advantage.
Rickson Gerrero had 15 points, while MJ Enriquez had 10 points for Diliman College in the tournament that is commemorating the Malolos Republic.
Michael Canete and Levi Dela Cruz each had 16 points for the Chiefs, who also got 11 points from Richard Abanes.
Eight teams are competing in the collegiate tournament. The other squads are University of the Philippines, Jose Rizal University, Bulacan State University, and Immaculate Concepcion College.
In the commercial division, Malolos Agilas, Malolos Mighty, Baliuag, and Gamboa Coffee are competing.
