INGRID Sewa had 12 points, Don Trollano hit the go-ahead free throws late in the game, and Adamson survived a Far Eastern University comeback to pull off a 68-67 victory on Saturday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
Sewa, a Cameroonian center who played for the Falcons after a two-year residency, scored nine consecutive points during a short run bridging the third and fourth periods to give Adamson a 50-44 lead.
Trollano, meanwhile, buried two charities after FEU’s comeback from nine points down that settled the final score with 17.4 seconds remaining.
Terrence Romeo missed a triple that would have given the Tamaraws the come-from-behind victory.
Adamson coach Leo Austria was surprised with the Falcons' resolve to pull off the win so early in the season.
“We didn’t play well in the Fr. Martin Cup because of some new players,” said Austria. “I never thought that they will perform that they will play well.”
Harry Petilos and Francis Donahue hit back-to-back baskets to allow Adamson to gain a 58-49 headway in the fourth period.
Far Eastern was able to come back with Anthony Hargrove hitting a putback with 34 seconds to play, 67-66.
But Trollano drove to the basket and was able to get a foul to send him to the free throw line.
Rodney Brondial and Jericho Cruz added 10 points each for the Falcons.
Romeo scored a game-high 21 points while Hargrove added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Tamaraws.
