SHOOTING Stars Red denied It's Showtime's three-peat bid at the 2024 Star Magic All Star Games with an 85-74 win on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

In a game where the noontime show mainstays never led, match MVP Young JV Kapunan led the red team's scoring outburst that got the lead to as much as 20 points with 21 markers, three rebounds and two steals.
Fellow mythical five selections Lance Carr and Argel Saycon fired the shooting stars to victory with 19- and 18-point nights, respectively.
Saycon's 11 rebounds behind a game-high 15 boards from LA Nepomuceno slammed the door on a struggling It's Showtime side that only converted a third of their 75 field goal attempts.
Team captain and Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) ace Gerald Anderson was held to just nine points, six assists and three rebounds following an apparent ankle injury late in the opening frame.
Meanwhile, the shots just didn't fall for It's Showtime even as it cut the deficit to nine late in the final frame. Derrick Hubalde showed the way on offense with 20 points and eight boards while reigning MVP Ion Perez produced 14 points and six rebounds.
Ronnie Alonte, who was the match MVP in the previous game over Cong's wards, suited up for his It's Showtime family and pitched in a near-double-double of 13 points and seven boards.
