SHAREEF O’Neal is taking on a different path from his father, Hall of Famer and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, at least when it comes to where he’s playing college ball.

According to his AAU team’s tweet on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time), the 17-year-old O’Neal chose to commit to play for the Arizona Wildcats, instead of going to LSU where his father played.

The 6-foot-9 forward out of Santa Monica Crossroads High in California had a long list of suitors, including UCLA, Kentucky, and Shaq’s alma mater LSU but chose to go with the Wildcats, joining another highly touted prospect in Emmanuel Akot.

At 200 pounds, O’Neal is leaner but more versatile than his father, who dominated the paint with his 7-foot-1 and over 300-pound frame in the NBA. The younger O’Neal can play the power forward position in Arizona who can stretch the floor with his outside shooting or explode to the hoop.
