CENTRO Escolar University and Technological Institute of the Philippines scored wins over teams from the UAAP and NCAA, respectively, at the start of the Metro Manila qualifying games of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League on Tuesday at the TIP gym.
The CEU Scorpions, champions of the National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (Naascu), defeated the University of the Philippines, 81-63, in their Group B match.
Also in Group B, the National Collegiate Basketball League (NCBL) titlist TIP Engineers upended NCAA side Lyceum, 85-78, as they vie for slots in the step-ladder phase of the Luzon-Metro Manila qualifiers.
Meanwhile, University of the East downed La Consolacion College, 73-50, and Emilio Aguinaldo College beat St. Francis of Assisi College, 76-66, in Group A play.
The top team in Group A and Group B will face each other with the winner facing either the South Luzon/Bicol or North/Central Luzon division champion.
The Metro Manila and Luzon teams, however, will still have to face UAAP and NCAA teams in order to grab one of the Final Four slots in the PCCL that already includes UAAP titlist La Salle, NCAA champion San Beda, and the Southern winner.
