LANDRY Sanjo made a huge defensive play that led to rookie Antonio Pardo's a game-winner as Southwestern University completed a sweep of its Manila games with a 79-77 victory over University of Perpetual Help System Dalta on Friday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
Sanjo blocked the shots of Harold Arboleda and Earl Thompson in the Altas final possession before Pardo hit a running shot at the buzzer for the walk-off win for the Cobras, who will go home to Cebu with a 2-0 win-loss slate.
“Sanjo made good blocks and that was just a lucky shot in the sense that he (Pardo) had the composure to take that shot,” said SWU coach Yayoy Alcoseba.
“These two wins (are) for the Cebuanos,” Alcoseba said.
The Cobras will finish the elimination round with four games in Cebu in the tournament’s out-of-town games from May 21 to 25.
Pardo and Sanjo actually led a Cobras fightback as the Altas wasted a late lead after Thompson hit a triple with 1:21 left in the fourth to give Perpetual Help a 77-72 lead.
But Pardo hit a triple with 1:01 left to slice the gap before Sanjo tied the game with a field goal down low, 77-77.
Pardo had 19 points on 4-of-8 from three-point range, while Sanjo added 13 points, nine rebounds, and five blocks for the Cobras.
The Altas suffered their first loss after a 3-0 start.
