SAN Juan and Nueva Ecija arranged a clash for the 2022 Filbasket Summer Championship crown after sweeping their rivals in the semifinals at the San Jose Del Monte Sports Complex.
The Knights completed the upset over Tanduay with a 92-81 victory, while the Capitals overcame All-Star Bacolod Ballers Bingo Plus, 88-72, in Game Two to sweep the best-of-three semifinal series.
The championship series will be some sort of a rematch of last tournament’s title clash as Nueva Ecija’s core as well as head coach Jerson Cabiltes formed part of the AICC Manila team that beat San Juan-Go For Gold in the Subic Championship.
Game One of the best-of-three title series is scheduled on Wednesday, 6 p.m. at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex.
Nueva Ecija gets past Bacolod to advance to the finals.
Jhonard Clarito and Judel Fuentes each had 15 points, and tournament MVP Justin Gutang had 14 points as the Knights dealt the Rum Masters their second straight loss after going unbeaten after 12 games.
Jeckster Apinan and Ralf Olivares each had 20 points but their effort failed to translate into a win that would have extended the series to a knockout match.
Michael Mabulac had 14 points as Bobby Balucanag and Byron Villarias each had 10 points in the victory by Nueva Ecija.
