SAN Juan and Davao Occidental start their MPBL Lakan Season national finals series on Wednesday afternoon at the Subic Bay Convention Center.
The Knights and the Tigers collide in a rematch of the Datu Cup finals at 4 p.m.
Both teams are looking to regain their form for the national finals as quickly as possible, having been on a lengthy respite entering the showdown.
San Juan advanced to the MPBL finals by beating five-man Makati, 131-54, in the rubber match of the North Division finals last week.
Davao Occidental even had an easier time, winning the knockout match in the South Division finals against Basilan via default after four players from the Steel tested positive for COVID-19.
Having to wait for a week for their opponent after Basilan underwent a seven-day quarantine, San Juan of head coach Randy Alcantara continued to prepare for the finals through practices inside the bubble.
Davao Occidental was also building up for the series, but on being in game shape for Game One remains to be seen. The Tigers coached by Don Dulay last played on March 11, 2020 when they beat Basilan, 81-76, at the Lamitan City New Gymnasium to forge a 1-1 tie in the South Division finals.
The league was shut down shortly after due to the pandemic.
The series will be shown live on A2Z Channel 11.
