SAN Juan and AICC Manila arranged a finals tussle in the Filbasket Subic Championship after beating separate rivals on Friday at the Subic Bay Gymnasium.
The Knights gained a measure of revenge against Davao Occidental, beating the Tigers, 85-84, in the knockout semifinal match.
AICC Manila routed Pasig Sta. Lucia, 88-68, in the other semifinal to set up a best-of-three finals against San Juan beginning on Sunday at the Subic Bay Gymnasium.
Wamar catches fire
Orlan Wamar scored 26 points including a perfect 4-of-4 from threes as the Knights ousted the same team that beat them in the MPBL Lakan Season finals early this year.
Paolo Hernandez scored 14 points including a triple that started a 5-0 run which Wamar capped with a lay-up to bring San Juan’s lead to 81-78.
With Davao Occidental down 85-82, Keith Agovida set himself up for a potential three-point play but missed the bonus free throw.
Davao Occidental also failed to capitalize on an offensive rebound as the Tigers, including former San Juan cager John Wilson, missed on a series of attempts.
Robby Celiz had 20 points while Wilson only scored four points and was 2-of-13 from the field including 0-of-6 from threes.
Michael Mabulac had 15 points while Chris Bitoon had 13 points in the runaway victory by AICC Manila.
Jeckster Apinan had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Realtors in a losing effort.
